Surfer Beach Hotel (San Diego, USA)

If you get a room above the second floor, you are in business. You will have great views and at night you can catch the ocean breeze.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. It is close to the bike and surfboard rental outlets, local bars and restaurants, and especially the beach.

The staff are helpful and friendly most of the time. It seems that they are there when you really need them, which is better than no service at all.

The hotel has no air conditioning. This is a big issue and it's enough to make you not want to return to the facility. If you have to sleep with your door open to try to catch a breeze, hopefully you are not on one of the bottom floors as you may not feel safe with just a screen between you and the outside world.

The hotel could do with a good cleaning. The carpets are full of dirt. If you walk around barefoot in your room, expect your feet to become a dirt magnet. On top of that, the hot water is cold and the cold water is hot. The hotel needs to get down to business in the cleaning area.

The parking lot is small and they have the audacity to charge you extra for it. If the restaurant next door is having a shindig, get ready to be up all night, you will definitely hear the noise. If you want a view, be sure to ask to be placed on floor two and up, if not you will get no view and no privacy. People walk in front of the lower-level rooms to get to their room, so it's as if you are on display in your room.
