The Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur is a five-star luxury hotel situated in the middle of a lake. It was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II on a 4-acre island in Lake Pichola. The hotel is a 45 minute drive (27km) from the nearest airport, 4 km from the railway station and just 1 km from the centre of Udaipur. The hotel has 33 luxury rooms, 33 palace rooms and a total of 17 suites. Most have views of the lake, the surrounding Aravali mountains or the Jagmandir Palace (the neighbouring island palace).
