About Northern Sands Hotel
Northern Sands is a beautifully refurbished hotel in the idyllic village of Dunnet, situated 4 miles from the mainland’s most northerly point Dunnet Head. Blessed with an enchanted forest, nostalgic Dwarwick pier and a sweeping white sandy beach stretching for over 2 miles. The bay offers great opportunities to sunbathe, paddle, swim, surf and indulge in other beach sports. Dunnet offers an extensive range of outdoor pursuits for active families, such as surfing, wind surfing, horse riding, kite bugging and sand castle making for the less active why not sit back and relax in Logan’s Bar or our Pentland’s Lounge and watch a variety of sport on our Sky TV.
We are on the brand new NC500, which the media have called Scotland’s own Route 66. Situated next door to the mainland’s most northerly Gin Distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillers which is a family business producing the award winning Rock Rose Gin & Holy Grass Vodka.
A variety of menus are available throughout the day, all year round, using an extensive list of local produce. Well-appointed rooms with extra-long plush beds for a peaceful night’s sleep, free wifi & parking are available.

Excellent Location
This hotel occupies an ideal location if you want to go to Dunnet Head which is five miles away and the most northerly part of Scotland. You can enjoy phenomenal views over Orkney. This hotel is also convenient for John O'Groats and Castle of Mey. You'll be nearby many hiking trails, the beach and lighthouse, and convenient to the ferry to Orkeny Islands.

Food Exceeds Expectations
Guests are pleasantly surprised by the quality of food offered in the pub. This isn't just your ordinary, standard pub grub, but rather well-thought out, creative dishes which boast generous portions. Guests also enjoy the tasty and filling, traditional Scottish breakfast each morning, which is a great way to begin your day.

Comfortable Accommodations
Rooms are lovely and well-presented. They are clean and comfortable, with ample storage. Rooms come fully-equipped with all the basic amenities you expect. Guests say the shower has good pressure and temperature control. These rooms won't wow you, but they get the job done when it comes to a comfortable place to rest your head at night.

Limited Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is not available in rooms, only in the reception area and the bar. If you enjoy streaming movies or checking your social media at night, this will prove a problem.

Temperature Issues
This hotel seems to have a cold feeling, even when the heat is running. This goes for the rooms as well. Guests say that rooms don't fully warm-up, and the en suite bathrooms stay cold. You may want to bring an extra blanket with you.
