About Mutinondo Wilderness

Mutinondo Wilderness is a 10,000 hectare private wilderness reserve, set among a cluster of the spectacular granite inselbergs of Muchinga Province, Zambia, which offers self-catering campsites and fully catered chalets, encompassing over 60 km of maintained walking trails. Our four en-suite chalets are complimented by eight self-catering campsites in the main camp, each positioned for access to toilet and shower facilities, and the secluded self-catering Kankonde campsite, ideal for family groups. There is an honesty bar and set-menu restaurant at the main lodge, and all campsites are complete with a simple braai/barbecue grill and a picnic bench. A large cluster of spectacular, and easy-to-climb Inselbergs (granite outcroppings) exists within the wilderness area, along with a series of waterfalls and cascades along the Musamfushi river - the closest, Choso falls, is within a kilometre of the main campsite. There are several places aroung the wilderness area where late stone-age rock art can be found, most notably at Hyrax Hill, and during the dry season, guests can walk to iron-age workings on our western boundary. We are a popular stopover for birding groups, with 362 bird species recorded for the site, including the hard-to-spot Bar-Winged Weaver and Chestnut-Headed Flufftail. We also have a wealth of other wildlife, from skittish bushbuck and duiker, and an endemic frog, to nearly 150 species of butterfly - including one species described from the area - and an incredible diversity of wildflowers.
