We love everything about this rental. Jean was the perfect host from the beginning, providing great tips before we began traveling and reserving a car with Mr. T. When we arrived. Miss Wynette showed us around the beautiful tropical property and gave us a list of restaurants, grocery stores, and a detailed list of places to go. This was our second time to LI and we loved staying in the center of the island. We enjoyed all the little extras you get with this property like having coffee on the porch, kayaking to the island, playing horseshoes, building a fire at night and having internet access to plot the next days adventures. Long Island is a special place with wonderful people and we can’t wait to return. Thank you Jean for sharing your little piece of paradise with us. Nancy

Perfect vacation!

We love staying at Grotto Bay. The owners were easy to connect with and very helpful. The place is a gem on Long Island in the Bahamas and we would highly recommended this property.

Fantastic

The grounds. vegitation, proximity to places to eat and markets can't be beat. The room is a bit dark to do any office type work.. so don't. When Kris and Jeannie are on the property, it makes it all the more special.

Great place a week or two R and R!

It was our first time on Long Island and it was great! We spent a week, rented a car and toured everywhere. The beaches are gorgeous and seldom anyone else there. Jeannie and Kris are super helpful and gracious hosts. We had a great time and will for sure return. Highly recommend!!!

This place is great

My husband and I stayed here in and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Long Island. We were the only ones staying there and had the place to ourselves. We stayed in one of the two rooms they rent out. It was just the right size and having access to the shared kitchen/fridge area was nice. We used the snorkeling equipment and cooler they lend out to guests and enjoyed exploring the island. Joey got us settled and answered any questions we had. Probably the highlight of the trip was watching a bit of the Free Diving competition at Deans Blue Hole. Amazing!! The location of the Grotto House is perfect for exploring either end of the island as it is so central. We explored several of the beaches and landmarks. Such a quiet island compared to some of the others we’ve been to.

Beautiful location - central to everything!

We had a blast. Dwight even caught a barracuda fish but let it go.We really enjoyed Long Island as we traveled from the top to the bottom enjoying all of the beautiful water colors. The most memorable spot is the Christopher Columbus monument at the top of the Island. Beautiful clear waters and scenery. Thanks for the restaurant guide. Eat the Conch. It was Wonderful. This was our second stay at the Grotto Bay. Jeannie and Chris are remarkable hosts and very kind, willing to share their knowledge of the island as well as their life experiences. The property is immaculate with special details that captures the spirit of the island. It is centrally located and is very convenient if wishing to explore the entire island. It is indeed long. Long Island is a treasure along with her people. A very special place.

Long Island Getaway

As soon as we arrived in our rental car we knew Grotto Bay Villas was a special place to which we hope to return. Kris and Jeannie, the owners who live upstairs, were there to greet us and make us feel at home. Grotto Bay Villas has everything as one can read in the other reviews and was spotless and clean! The beach is 50 meters away. It is very private. The beach is yours to enjoy. If you like to fish, there are bonefish right in front of the villa! After unpacking and getting situated, I grabbed my fly rod and within 15 minutes hooked two and landed one bonefish. I was not able to duplicate this in ensuing evenings but the fish are there. There are bonefish on the cay which is a short kayak paddle away. There are also two flats, one north and one south of the villa, which are within a five to ten minute drive. Of course there many other places to fish on your own but I only had a week and was unable to explore too many places. One week is too short! I have been to three other islands in the Bahamas but Long Island is now my new favorite. Food stores and restaurants are close by. The beaches are amazingly beautiful. Kris and Jeannie provide detailed, written information on where to see great beaches and enjoy great food. The people, both native and tourists, were very friendly and we made many new friends while staying on Long Island. We fully intend to return to Grotto Bay Villas but for a minimum of two weeks next time!

The Real Bahamas

Everything was just as described. It is a lovely peaceful spot. We used the kayaks and the snorkeling gear. The kitchen is well equipped. We rented a car which is very handy to explore the island. There is much to see, one stunning beach after another. The information provided on the different beaches, coves and eating spots were super helpful. Thank you!

Fantastic vacation on Long Island!

The amenities really are the little things" that make a big difference here:

Surf, Sun, Sand ... Superb!

Comfortable room with hot water shower, AC and fully equipped kitchen....private beach with easy snorkelling (colorfull fish)on premises and very quiet place to sunbath and relax or take a kayak to visit surroumding waters. Great caves to visit also on premises. Long Island has many attractions such as secret beaches, Dean's blue hole, plantation ruins, nicest beaches in the world, good restaurants, friendly people, interesting history and culture, good fishing, and more we did not see. All you need is to rent a car. Thanks Kris and Jean to allow sharing a piece of your paradise. So far the nicest Bahamian island we visited (our fifth trip to the Outislands)!

Hidden paradise

My husband and I spent ten days at Grotto Bay on honeymoon, and had the best possible time. We loved Jeannie and Kris, who went above and beyond to make our stay amazing, from lending us wetsuits, to taking us on a tour of the next-door caves, to ordering in a coconut from a friend's farm in the far north of the island (thanks Jeannie, it was amazing!!). The rooms were immaculate, and the view was perfect, with the beach starting as soon as we stepped down from the wrap-around porch. I saw hummingbirds and rare warbler species in the trees just outside, while Amy the resident turtle was a highlight of our trip. Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning Driftwood and Scrapwood, Grotto Bay's beautiful resident cats! To sum up - we loved our time here, and in fact we never wanted to leave. As soon as we can organise a return airfare to Long Island, we'll be back!

Couldn't have chosen a better honeymoon spot

This property is a must stay for anyone looking for complete privacy within your own tranquil compound. You have your own beach, free snorkeling gear, paddle boards and kayaks at your disposal to enjoy in the most beautiful, calm, crystal clear waters. The property it self has hammocks right on the beach as well as on your deck to just chill out and enjoy the spectacular views. Our room was very nice, clean and had all the amenities one would expect with the most comfortable bed that you could lay in and look out the windows at the beautiful waters. There is a great outdoor kitchen for you to cook up a storm or use your own Weber Grill right on the sand. We enjoyed ourselves so much at this property that it was difficult to leave for the day and see the many attractions Long Island has to offer. Since the property is situated in the middle part of Long Island you are only a short drive away to many other beautiful secluded beaches, restaurants, grocery stores and attractions. And if I may add the people of this island are just so nice and pleasant to talk with as well as the owners of this property. This has been our third time here at Grotto Bay so that ought to tell you something!

Tranquility at it's best

This place is the most relaxing place we have stayed in the Carribean. It is perfect for 2 couples or in our case my son & girlfriend. So private yet right in mid island so you can get anywhere on the island. Jean & Kris are the best hosts you could ever ask for- interesting- knowledgeable and funny. The pace isn't fancy but very clean- incredibly beautiful with very private beach , entrance to the caves, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling gear. They arranged the Suzuki AWD for us -dropped us off advised us on restaurants, sites- arranged a dive master & trip and fishing guides with advance notice ( we should have listened to her on that)If bone fishing you want a guide at least twice then maybe DIY.Best deal in the Bahamas in a real Bahamaian experience.. Go here if you want to experience Ling Island - the best island for the real thing- prettiest one in the Bahamas- great beaches, vistas over the Atantic !Loads of fun. Stay here !!Pat S
