Positive Reviews
positive:
Old meets new
Guests love the Art Deco appearance of the Clarendon Hotel, yet note that there are plenty of modern conveniences on offer. This is perhaps best seen in the rooms. They are spacious as you might expect from an older property yet also include modern features such as flat-screen TVs.
positive:
Good value for money
Many guests find the room rates are reasonable and are also appreciative of the free perks such as Wi-Fi and on-site laundry. You'll pay extra for parking and dining but reviews often suggest that the cost of these additional amenities is reasonable.
positive:
Excellent location
Being able to walk to so many places is a plus point. Indeed, many guests used the hotel when attending the nearby Civic Theatre. Be sure to check out the pre-theatre dinner menu. Guests also like being able to walk to the harbour and beach.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Some noise complaints
Guests mention that the hotel can get noisy on Friday and Saturday evenings when there is live music on in the bar or beer garden. It's great if you plan to enjoy the entertainment on offer. If you were hoping for a quiet night, perhaps not so much.
negative:
Parking could be better
Reviews suggest that the parking situation at the hotel could be better. The problem is not so much the fact that you have to pay extra but rather that it is in a separate area to the hotel and, apparently, it can be tricky to find.
negative:
Restaurant closes on Sunday
Don't expect to be able to dine at the hotel on Sunday evenings as you'll find the on-site restaurant is closed all day. This left a few guests disappointed. Others didn't mind so much as Derby Street - an area “eat street” - is within a 15-minute walk of the hotel.
